Giants Trade JPP To Bucs
The New York Giants are not done making offseason moves. With possibly their biggest move yet they ship former All-Pro and Pro-bowler Jason Pierre Paul to the Tampa Bay Bucs. He was coming off a relatively down year for the amount of money he was being paid. He finished with 68 Tackles 8.5 sacks and 5 Passes Defended.
JPP has been a great player for the Giants but this is a business and he had a huge cap hit for the foreseeable future. By trading him the Giants free up 2.5 million this year. While also freeing up about 15.5 million in 2019. The Giants got Tampa Bay’s 2018 3rd and 4th rounder. The Giants now have 4 of the top 100 picks in the 2018 NFL draft.
This signing also opens up the books to sign young stars Landon Collins and Odell Beckham Jr. Both of those contracts will be huge, and with Olivier, under contract, the Giants needed some relief. This trade also has draft implications because it may bring NC state’s Bradley Chubb into the conversation for the Giants at #2.
Hopefully, Dave Gettelman is better at the 3rd round of the draft than Jerry Reese if so then it was a good trade.
Just talked to JPP, who said Dave Gettleman called to tell him he’d been traded to Bucs. JPP said DG told him it was “an offer they couldn’t refuse.” JPP said he is happy he’ll be closer to his son, who lives in S Florida. #NYG

JPP also told me: “Thank you to the Giants for the 8 years I spent there. They’re making changes; I understand that. Thank you to fans that supported me, and thanks for the great Super Bowl run that we had.” NYG
